EVANESCENCE

About the Title
Evanescence comes from the Latin word evanescere which meant "disappear or vanish." It is defined today as a condition lasting for only a short time, then disappearing and forgotten quickly as it came.

Memories may be fleeting but writing makes these fragments of our lives permanent. Evanescence epitomizes the image of this transience we all live with. Along the process of pain and happiness, we discover and gather our pieces that glue us out of the shards of who we used to be—the reconstituted self.
Writing, if not settles, reconciles with what haunts an individual. It confronts the unsaid and attempts to bridge the past and the present. The concept of evanescence emphasizes how nothing lasts forever, everything vanishes quickly. But with writing, disappearance does not equate with forgetting. Instead, it is the birth of something new, an immortalized version of who we used to be.

About the Class
One important take we learned most from CW 140-141: "Everything is a memoir." These words compelled us to look more than what's on the surface level and dive deep into the realms of our selves and how the self is affected by society's shortcomings and how the self is further realized through writing. Finding material for writing can be tedious as it mostly comes from ourselves. Writing nonfiction requires the bravery of being vulnerable, to be seen naked through our writing. The CW 140-141 class taught us that that vulnerability is strength. And the mere capability of being able realize these vulnerable moments into writing is what makes us reflect on who we are and what we've become.

With this, we'd like to extend our deepest gratitude to Dr. Jhoanna Lynn Cruz, Dean of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, and our vibrant and gorgeous Professor in CW 140-141 for guiding us through the art of nonfiction writing. Emphasizing authenticity and literary craftsmanship, she fosters the development of unique voices and compelling narratives among her students. Her dedication and mentorship are cherished by the entire CW 140-141 class, who are eternally grateful for her invaluable guidance and support. We, the entire class of CW 140-141 F, deeply appreciate your mentorship and want to express our heartfelt thanks for your invaluable guidance and support.
